This morning, bright and early at 7am, Jean-Caude (driver) and I went to Port-au-Prince. I needed to buy cat food, something that’s not available in Leogane. I ran out of the stuff I brought from the States. Yesterday I had to feed her some nasty leftover tuna that someone left in the fridge before I arrived. I even fried it in olive oil and added some bean sauce for extra protein. I can’t remember the last time I cooked meat for anyone! She’s one lucky kitty.

The ride into the capital was great this morning because it still wasn’t too hot and there was a nice breeze coming through the windows. I’m slowly learning the names of places. Jean Claude is great at pointing things out and constantly repeating the names of the towns we pass through. Today he showed me were I can go to the beach, Sunny Plage. The turquoise water looks absolutely beautiful from the road, but I’m not sure how nice the beach is.
The truck’s air conditioner broke, again, on the way back to Leogane. This truck has so many problems. It's actually amazing that it runs at all. Jean-Claude told me the other day that he’s going to teach me to drive it. Today we had our first lesson: starting the engine. You have to put the key in the ignition and turn it half way for several seconds until the engine is “hot” and starts to make a ticking sound. Then you can turn it on all the way. Hmmm…
Right now one of the little stores on the street is blasting Compa. I can hear people singing at a nearby church too. I like it. I think I’ll go sit out on the porch, relax, and take in the sounds.
